Installing the STEP 7 Software

Basic concept:
STEP 7 is pre-installed on SIMATIC PGs, but must be installed on PCs intended for use as a programming system. Suitable PCs, having  a Windows operating system (Windows 7). The SETP 7 Basic package contains the LAD/FBD/STL programming editor, which supports Ladder, Function Block Diagram, and Statement List languages for programming S7 controllers. Optional languages and tools, which must be installed after STEP 7 is installed, must be considered since they should be installed on the same drive.

Quick steps:
Step 1: logon as administrator or power user, to install STEP 7 for Windows 7.
Step2: ensure that your PC hard drive has adequate space for the installation. Depending on your component selection from 200-380 MB will be required.
Step 3: from the Windows Explorer navigate to the SETUP.exe installation program on the STEP 7 CD (or Flash Disk) and double-click on the program to start the installation.

Step 4: from the STEP 7 setup dialog Setup Language, click and select the language of choice to use for the STEP 7 installation setup dialogs.
